Such a great record. I only recently learned that some critics snarkily referred to this album as Big Star Fourth when it came out.
Luscious.
The snark must not have bothered them much, because some of their subsequent material owed even more to Big Star, especially Chris Bell.
But it was so easy to be snarky in ’91. We didn’t realize how good we had it. Nowadays one is happy to hear anything with a melody, harmonies, and cool chord changes. I’d bet TF is on some of those critics’ playlists.
