The Chatbots Are Getting Better

As part of my ongoing obsession with becoming obsolete, I nervously note the progress of all the AI’s. OpenAI, one of the world’s more ambitious labs, unleashed the chatbot ChatGPT into the internets and told people to have at it, in part to help de-bug it. The above was one of the prompts and replies.

After the release of ChatGPT — which has been used by more than a million people — many experts believe these new chatbots are poised to reinvent or even replace internet search engines like Google and Bing.

They can serve up information in tight sentences, rather than long lists of blue links. They explain concepts in ways that people can understand. And they can deliver facts, while also generating business plans, term paper topics and other new ideas from scratch.

“You now have a computer that can answer any question in a way that makes sense to a human,” said Aaron Levie, chief executive of a Silicon Valley company, Box, and one of the many executives exploring the ways these chatbots will change the technological landscape. “It can extrapolate and take ideas from different contexts and merge them together.”

We’re just a couple of years past “Happy Batday, Birthman.” They’re coming for us. In fact, I’m now beginning to suspect that MakerBOT is an embedded chatbot making Makerbot-like posts and responses. He’s fine-tuning it here, so that it can take over his Work-From-Home job.

I’m onto you.

  1. I’ve been writing RFPs for the past 12 years and would kill for this technology. Looks like I’ll have to find something else to kill for now.

  2. Write some song lyrics about doing taxes in the style of Radiohead

    Verse 1:
I’ve been staring at these forms for hours
My mind is numb, my eyes are sore
I try to focus but my thoughts keep drifting
To all the things I’d rather be doing

    Chorus:
    Doing taxes, oh so fun
Another joy of being an adult
    Sorting receipts and calculating
All the money that I’ve spent

    Verse 2:
I dread the day when I have to file
The stress is overwhelming, the pile
    Of paperwork keeps growing higher
I wish I could just set it on fire

    Chorus:
    Doing taxes, oh so fun
Another joy of being an adult
    Sorting receipts and calculating
All the money that I’ve spent

    Bridge:
    I know it’s important, I know I must
But it’s just so tedious and tiring
I’ll get through it, I’ll do my best
But I can’t wait until it’s all done

    Chorus:
    Doing taxes, oh so fun
Another joy of being an adult
    Sorting receipts and calculating
All the money that I’ve spent.

  3. Ok, I’m NOT impressed. I asked ChatGBT to write song lyrics about a fish fry in the style of Ian Curtis. I was expecting something about “boiling cauldrons of death,” but instead I got this:

    Verse 1:
It’s a Friday night, and we’re feeling alright
We gather ’round the table, the beer is flowing
The air is filled with the smell of fried fish
Our mouths are watering, we can’t resist

    Chorus:
Fish fry, fish fry, oh what a delight
Crispy and golden, it’s a delicious sight
With tartar sauce and lemon wedges on the side
We dig in, and it’s pure joy inside

    Verse 2:
The music’s playing, we’re singing along
The laughter and chatter, it’s a joyful song
We’re happy and carefree, and life is good
A fish fry, it’s the best way to end the week we would

    Chorus:
Fish fry, fish fry, oh what a delight
Crispy and golden, it’s a delicious sight
With tartar sauce and lemon wedges on the side
We dig in, and it’s pure joy inside

    Bridge:
We raise our glasses, and we toast to friends
To good food, and good times that never end
We’ll do it all again, next Friday night
For a fish fry, it’s the perfect way to make everything right

    Chorus:
Fish fry, fish fry, oh what a delight
Crispy and golden, it’s a delicious sight
With tartar sauce and lemon wedges on the side
We dig in, and it’s pure joy inside

  4. Describe Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 in the manner of Borat:

Mahler’s fifth symphony is very nice piece of music! It have many different parts, such as first movement which called “Trauermarsch” (Funeral March) and second movement is “Scherzo” that play very fast and make listener to feel happy. Third movement is “Adagietto” which is very romantic, and it is often use in movie soundtrack. And final movement is Rondo-Finale, it is very very exciting, like when you watch Borat in swimwear. Symphony overall is very great and make listener to feel many different emotions, like when you watch Borat in swimwear. It is very recommended to listen to this symphony, is great success!
