Alien: Earth Episodes 1&2 Easter Eggs

My latest obsession is the new Alien: Earth series on Hulu. Just the right balance of callbacks to previous Alien movies and fresh creative ideas. It’s pretty … pretty … pretty … pretty good. Some of the stuff this New Rockstars guy notices might be a stretch, but he catches a ton of details I missed.

Anyway, enjoy or don’t. But don’t text me six months from now saying, “Oh my god, have you watched Alien: Earth? It’s amazing!” (You know who you are.)

RIP Superlungs

Terry Reid famously turned down both Zep and Deep Purple.

Good story from Musicradar (the number 1 website for musicians, y’all):

“Keith asked me to support the Stones in the States, but then shortly afterward Jimmy wanted me to join his new band. I was torn. In the end, I put the ball in Jimmy’s court. I said: ‘You’d better speak to Keith and tell him I’m not going.’

“But Jimmy bottled it. He said: ‘I’m not having him shoot me in the fucking leg.’

I only have the River, but it’s a good one.

Jonee Jumped In His Datsun

I had the pleasure of finally seeing DEVO in Austin 14 years ago, but I really wish I could’ve seen them during this period, when it was still mostly guitars and Alan Myers (The Human Metronome) on drums. Anyway, please to enjoy this official HD video.

Chris Bell’s Mysterious Death and Big Star’s Music Legacy

Happy Monday! Listen to this instead of whatever else you’re supposed to be doing right now.

P.S. – Rich Tupica’s book is excellent! And reading it, I learned that I literally grew up in the house across the street from where Chris Bell grew up. Missed him by about 10 years, though.

Ye-Ye Rocks Out

There’s been a dearth of ye-ye goddesses around here lately.  As remedy, here’s a track unusual for its distorted guitar.
