Aliens!

In his recent biograpy, Living on a Thin Line, Dave Davies reports that aliens re-routed his sexual energy:

The 75-year-old rock star believes his mind was overtaken by aliens in 1982, when on tour in the US, and Dave claims they “blocked any sensation down there.”

He explained: “They told me I must not have sex and, although I was able to walk normally, my groin and pelvis suddenly became numbed, like they’d blocked any sensation down there.

“The reason being, they told me, was they wanted to transmute my sexual energy to a higher vibrational level.”

Dave was preparing to play a gig in Virginia when “things got weird very quickly.”

The guitarist recalled feeling “oddly disembodied.”

“I couldn’t understand why I was feeling so peculiar. I didn’t feel physically ill. This was different.
Dave also remembers hearing voices in his own head.

He said: “It was like my brain had flicked on a new psychic switch. After the initial jolt, I didn’t feel panicked or alarmed.

“These voices had a commanding presence, but were also non-threatening, calming even. My senses were overwhelmed.

“Where were these voices coming from? Were they floating close by? Or an alien force from many thousand miles away? I began to feel their presence.

“I could already hear them. Then I felt them physically and my nostrils were filled with different smells – again nothing unpleasant or sinister.

“In fact, the smells – of fresh flowers like jasmine and magnolia – had a fragrance so full I felt like I could have scooped them up with a spoon.”

Dave was with his lover Nancy Evans at the time, and he remembers being controlled by the “intelligences.”

He explained: “I’d entered into a telepathic exchange with mysterious beings. The intelligences, though, would only let me tell her what they wanted her to know.”

I’m going to need our resident Kinksologist to break this down,
but in the meantime enjoy some Kinks:

Hard Pass

Confession… I’m a bit of a horror movie nerd, and I actually like some of what Rob Zombie has put out there. This… this looks awful. I can’t believe that people gave him the go ahead to drop $30 million to produce this. Go ahead and watch this trailer, and let me know if you think this guy ever makes another “film.”

Goldbergs

I’m sure you all have a lot of music you have to hear a few times a year. On my list is Bach’s Goldberg Variations. I’m kind of addicted to theme and variations pieces, and this is one of the best, inventive and resourceful as hell. Bach can get too dour and Lutheran for me, but not here. Consists of an aria, 30 variations, then the aria again at the end. The common theme is not the aria but the bass line, which is repeated in every variaton, although not always overtly. The melodies of the variations are not necessarily related to one another. A huge range of material from a single bass line. Reminds me of how many rock songs use the same bass/chord structures a million different ways. But these are all from one work by one guy.

If I’m in the mood to hear a crazy young person play it, I go to Glenn Gould’s 1955 recording. This record made him an overnight sensation, and I would guess that it’s the #1 selling classical album of all time. If I’m in the mood to hear a crazy middle-aged person play it, I like GG’s 1981 re-make. When I want to hear it played by someone from this planet, I like the one posted above.

Musicologists wet their trousers when Bach is played on a piano instead of a harpsicord. They shit themselves too if the pianist is as individual and “inauthentic” as GG. All the more reason to love these records.

Tone Loco

So great. He thought it sucked but the producer told him to leave it in.
