Rick Nielsen’s Guitar Collection

Here’s something to pass the time while you wait on those COVID test results.

When it comes to guitar collections, some are so large, so special, and so rare, that even the best collectors can’t help but do a double-take. This is how you would define Rick Nielsen’s collection – a total head-turner.

In the latest episode of “The Collection,” host Mark Agnesi heads to Rockford, IL, to visit the godfather of guitar hoarding. Rick Nielsen, the lead guitarist for Cheap Trick, takes us through his cavern of guitars. Ranging from quirky and strange to the ultimate rare and last of its kind. And in a “The Collection” first, Rick shows off three original 1958 Explorers out of only nineteen in existence.

While Rick’s guitar bevy is superior to most, what’s striking is his irreverence for ‘value’ in a world full of collectors and purists. In Rick’s eyes, the guitar belongs to him, and how pristine the guitar is doesn’t really matter. His passion for guitars and the guitar world is apparent as he is still adding to the vault. Follow along as Rick takes us through his fantastic collection.

Ready To Discuss! Anyone? Buehler?

We just watched the season finale Sunday and I want to talk about it, goddammit! And if any of you bastards are on the fence, I can say without hesitation that WandaVision was a very pleasant surprise. Disney may have fucked up the Star Wars movies, but Kevin Feige is running a tight ship.

Sandinista Turns 40

Self-indulgent mess?  Misunderstood masterpiece?  I usually have an opinion on matters musical, but it’s now been forty years and I’m still not sure what to make of this album.  Which may be the point.  Or not.

The Polls Are Open …

… tomorrow for Fat Bear Week! Meet the bears here and vote.
“747” is a behemoth.

These are Kodiak bears – large brown bears that live in Alaska – chowing down for upcoming hibernation. I’m fascinated with the physiology of hibernation, and frequently read about bears. Kodiaks are humongous, but on average not quite as big as polar bears.
And who wins in a fight: A polar bear or grizzly bear?

I was impressed with the number of idiots who have no knowledge at all happy to weigh in on the subject. A polar bear will always win because it’s so much larger, and only eats meat, they tell us authoritatively.
And then, lo, an actual expert with experience:

Laurel Canyon

I’ve only seen the first of these, as recommended to us by Fat Elvis once upon a time. It’s great. A friend recently hipped me to Echo in the Canyon, and I noticed that there’s ANOTHER one out too.

I’m nostalgic for California, now that it’s burning up and falling into the ocean. I loved my time there. I may watch all of these. Maybe someone will tell us that Laurel Canyon gave birth to punk.

Fuck Fuckity Fuck Yeah

BRING IT.

What Do Y’all Think?

I’ve seen The Thing probably 30 times. Just watched it again the other night as a matter of fact, and it never occurred to me before that Childs-Thing tips his hand at the very end when MacReady offers him a drink AND HE TAKES IT. Carpenter even telegraphs this early in the film by having MacReady pour his J&B into the computer for cheating. My mind is blown.

These Guys Again
