Fappity Fappity Fappity Fap

I never hated Don’t Tell a Soul as much as some other diehard Mats fans, but always really wanted to hear these other versions, especially after reading Trouble Boys. Speaking of that, here’s Mehr, who wrote the liner-notes for this box set with a really weird format.

“While it’s impossible to unhear a record that’s been around for three decades, this version, Don’t Tell A Soul Redux, is the album the band made and intended to release. In addition to Matt Wallace’s mix, Redux also restores several crucial elements from the sessions, including original drums tracks, vocal takes and tempos that were altered in post-production…[and] the band’s original sequence of the album.”

The box also includes a contemporary live set. I saw them on that tour, and they were quite good.  My birthday is in a couple of weeks. You can pre-order it for me here.

Marc Bolan Doc

A decent overview of his brief career.  He may have been a one-trick pony, but three-chord glam doesn’t get any better than Electric Warrior, The Slider, and part of Tanx.  Bowie ascended as Bolan peaked, and I can’t help but wonder if he shape-shifted with one icy-blue eye on Bolan’s commercial fate.  And if you think Tony Visconti just played a minor role in Bolan’s music, well you can just think again!

A Brief Design History Of A Watch You’ll Never Own

Fun if for no other reason than you get to see a shitload of mind-numbingly expensive watches all in one place.

A silly question that we get asked quite a bit here at HODINKEE is, “What is the best watch?” Sure, I get why people ask it and what they’re getting at, but it’s impossible to say anything is “the best” when you’re dealing with something as subjective and personal as wristwatches. What you like aesthetically, the history that’s meaningful to you personally, and the idiosyncrasies of how you live your life all impact that answer of that question. However, there’s a similar question that we also get asked a lot, for which I do think there are a few good answers: “What is the most important watch of all time?” The Rolex Submariner is a pretty darn good answer. It’s not the only answer, but it’s one that I find tough to argue with.

Come To Butthead

Second and (I think) final trailer for IT Chapter 2, Electric Boogaloo. Now with 37% more Bill Hader!

September 5 will be here soon, you bastards …

Evil resurfaces in Derry as director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club in a return to where it all began with “IT Chapter Two,” the conclusion to the highest-grossing horror film of all time.

Twenty-seven years after the Losers Club defeated Pennywise, he has returned to terrorize the town of Derry once more. Now adults, the Losers have long since gone their separate ways. However, kids are disappearing again, so Mike, the only one of the group to remain in their hometown, calls the others home. Damaged by the experiences of their past, they must each conquer their deepest fears to destroy Pennywise once and for all…putting them directly in the path of the clown that has become deadlier than ever.

The film is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive global box office hit “IT,” which grossed more than $700 million worldwide. Both redefining and transcending the genre, “IT” became part of the cultural zeitgeist.

“IT Chapter Two” stars James McAvoy (the “X-Men” movies, “Split,” “Glass”) as Bill, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Mama,” “Molly’s Game”) as Beverly, Bill Hader (HBO’s “Barry,” “The Skeleton Twins”) as Richie, Isaiah Mustafa (TV’s “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”) as Mike, Jay Ryan (TV’s “Mary Kills People”) as Ben, James Ransone (HBO’s “The Wire”) as Eddie, and Andy Bean (“Swamp Thing,” “Allegiant”) as Stanley. Reprising their roles as the original members of the Losers Club are Jaeden Martell as Bill, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie, Finn Wolfhard as Richie, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Chosen Jacobs as Mike, and Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben. Bill Skarsgård returns in the seminal role of Pennywise.

Liz Brasher

We’re sharing a bill with this lady Saturday.

I’ve never heard of her (I’m so out of the loop these days), but damn.

Can’t Buy Me Love

I have to wonder what The Beatles made of this.

This was another Beatles song to get the Sellers treatment and its meaning takes on a whole new dimension when we hear the two characters in this recording. The voice Sellers uses for the female character is reminiscent of the one he used for Crystal Jollybottom in his long run with radio’s “Ray’s A Laugh.”

Fixing The Worst VFX Shot Ever

Fascinating!

I can easily remember sitting in the theater watching The Mummy Returns with the wife, laughing my ass off when the shot in question popped up. This loud, idiotic sequel was annoying as shit already, and somehow, a rubberized Dwayne Johnson at the end was the perfect cherry on top.

The fix isn’t 100%, which these guys readily admit, but it’s a million times better.
