I never got the popularity of that song, or for that matter, how someone wrote it without throwing it out, decided it was worth pitching, got a taker, got recorded, selected as a single, played on the radio. . . you’d think someone at some point would have said, “no, just no, that song is fucking ridiculous.” Which of course many people did upon hearing it. Just a massive failure of the checks and balances which should protect us from these things.
