Thanks to the absurdly kind generosity of a friend of ours, Monkeystador and I got to attend the Foo Fighters show in Nashville this past Saturday, which included backstage passes, a tour of all the gear, and a trip to Club Rami (named for the Foo’s keyboard player), a suite stocked with free beer and water.
I’m a casual Foo Fighters fan, but was very pleasantly surprised to learn that QOTSA were on the bill, and then positively THRILLED when they played several songs off my favorite album of theirs, Songs for the Deaf. Some nice YouTuber posted a couple of the highlights, which I now submit for your approval.

Can confirm Makerbot’s tale of rock access and privilege. Also that the concert was hot and loud. And that Pat Smear needs three semis to carry his guitars from show to show.
I’m a bit puzzled why FF and QOTSA have keyboard players for their particular brands of music.
So oblivious that I failed to notice it’s Dean Fertita on keys for QOTSA. He played with The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather but MORE IMPORTANT made the indie pop masterpiece Low to The Ground with The Waxwings. Love that album.
Similarly, I did some research on the QOTSA drummer Jon Theodore, who, as you can hear and see for yourself in the above videos, is an absolute MONSTER. In addition to being the longest-serving drummer in the band (13 years!), he’s also played with the Mars Volta, did a side project with Zach de la Rocha, and recorded and toured with Bright Eyes – among many other projects.
