I never got into Jerky Boys or Howard Stern despite living in NYC for over ten years. Probably due to lack of free time. Or possibly no sense of humor.
To enjoy something like Jerky Boys, you need not familiarity with NYC, but immaturity. Not having matured much beyond age 15, I respond to that kind of gag humor. But I never really liked Howard Stern. The few times I watched , it seemed to me that his schtick was just being a jerk, which to me isn’t all that funny unles it’s especially witty or creative. Maybe I didn’t watch it enough to see him at his best.

I did, however, greatly appreciate Sarah Silverman on Crank Yankers.
“You’re crapping way over your quota.”
“Don’t be a hog, hold the log.”
