I was fashionably late to both the Big Star and the William Eggleston party, but at least I made it. Here’s some really cool images from way back when. As a music aficionado who has a penchant for all things single lens reflect, this is right up my alley. Click here for more Memphis goodness.
Apologies if y’all have seen these before, I’m still learning about the epic times in Memphis back in the day.
Not sure about the location of the other two, but that top photo is definitely the roof of the Peabody.
Other two are Alex’s parents’ house.
I don’t think they’re sober in those last two pictures at Alex’s mom’s house.
No one was ever sober there. It was a wee hours of the morning destination when available. Fun or annoying depending on who was there. Best was when he was in the mood to spin records.
I could not find the Eggleston photo of Renfield with cascading 70’s locks. Is that in the deep, deep archive?
Those pictures were taken at least five years before I would have been over there. I saw Eggleston drunkenly take some random pictures in bars a few times, but as far as I know I was in none.
