  1. The track lists on those Japanese versions of the early albums are even more confusing than the American ones.

I was lucky in that I lived in Germany from the first album through Revolver, so I had the albums as intended (the Brit and American releases were the same after Revolver). It once led to a vigorous 5th grade debate between me and another kid. He said Rubber Soul was a lousy album, I said it was great. We went back and forth for some time. It wasn’t until I was at his house one day when I saw that we weren’t even talking about the same album. The US version had some of the filler songs from the UK Help album and was missing others.

Several years ago some idiot hack music journalist wrote an article in the WSJ arguing that the US Rubber Soul is superior to the UK. It should have cost him his job.

  2. You were fighting the good fight at a young age.

I was dumbfounded when I first heard “I’m Only Sleeping” and “And Your Bird Can Sing” and realized that those had been left OFF of the American version of Revolver.

    1. I don’t know if I’d call it the good fight. It probably went like this:

      “Rubber Soul sucks.”
      “Nuh-uh it’s great.”
      “Is not.”
      “Is so.”
      “It sucks.”
      “You suck.”
      “No
      you suck.”

      Critical debate at its finest.
