Tales of True Adventure for Rugged Men Not Unlike Yourself

This is great!
I’d only ever heard the Magnapop version of the tune.
Not sure if the current song of the week is what sent you down the path, but apparently all roads lead to Carole King. At this point if you told me that she wrote “Mannish Boy,” I’d believe you.
I’d never heard the CK demo until a couple of days ago, when it popped up in my YouTube feed. The “old white guy” algorithm often misfires, but that was a bullseye. Old bastard that I am, I naturally had the Monkees version growing up. Thanks for that great Magnapop cover, I’d never heard it.
It does seem like she had a hand in writing just about everything. According to Wikipedia, “King is the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century in the US, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100.”
That’s a shitload of production for a demo!
Yeah, the amount of care made me wonder if she was already thinking of launching her performing career.
